It was a beautiful day for a run on Sunday April 27, 2014, slightly overcast and not to hot or cold. A runners dream. I did not get to run in London's Forest City's Road Races this year, what I believe is to be the largest this city hosts.
Although I chose London for my first 1/2 marathon. It was a funny day for weather some of you may remember that fine day back in 2010. Cool and overcast when we started then warm and sticky from the rain. Then the rain stopped I couldn't tell you when. It was still held on mothers day at that time. I kind of liked the fact that I was getting to run on a day that celebrates mothers. Ironically I feel your race can take on the same challenges and is somewhat parallel to motherhood. You are excited, anticipation for the day to arrive, you have expectations of how it is going to go down, but then a little scared of the unknown. Everyone you talk to has a piece of advice to give, but it still doesn't prepare you for the day. Each and everyone's experience is unique unto itself. The race itself is like the roller coaster you ride with your child. Feeling strong at times and others talking yourself thru, "I can do it, it'll get better". When you finally cross the finish line I relate that to the feeling I get to enjoy many times throughout my children's lives as they make accomplishments, reach new milestones, grow up right in front of your eyes becoming these beautiful miracles that God's blessed us with.
So whether you enjoyed your race or not, you can walk away saying you did it. Whether your inspired to run again or if it was a first and a last cross of the bucket list kind of goal, at the end of the day you never gave up. Walk away with your experience and head held high, Hey you never know maybe you'll be the one who shares the advice. :)
Love to hear from you about your race day!
