For those who are not taking the Spartan Challenge this may be the race for you! This is held the same weekend as Spartan, but better yet it's local! Check it out. http://illuminatelondon.ca/ I came across this article today and at the perfect timing just as my next race is around the corner. You know you've trained you know your splits. You've stuck to the program done your tempo runs, speed and long runs but still somewhere in the brain you hear that little voice saying "are you really prepared?" This is not my first race so you think knowing that, it would be easier but in fact I think it's the opposite. I tend to put more pressure on myself wanting to improve results equally each time I go out. I don't know about you but I play the mind games you have too. Talking the fears away, it is just part of being a runner. It never seems to go away some days are good some days are bad. All depends on how our body is feeling. Is it well rested and properly fueled, what kind if mood are you in? Sometimes you feel like running and sometimes you don't. I feel a runner is someone that gets up and runs no matter how they feel. Here's a link to the article, I highly suggest you read. It may just be the tip you need to push beyond those mental barriers. https://www.facebook.com/RunningTimesMagazine/posts/10152386782632090 Love Life & Live it. This is a spectacular event that is very affordable at $15 and makes a great pre or mid race run for any upcoming races you may have in store for the summer months.
I personally have not participated in any of these courses, but I have had the pleasure of running the trails at Fanshawe Conservation Park. This event offers a 5.5km trail run as well as your standard road races of 5k, 10k and a 15km race. Chip timed and a race bib. Keep it simple with a great Sunday morning run and a way to work out some of your race day worries. Check out MEC Events http://events.mec.ca/event/11577/mec-london-race-three-5km-10km-15km to get all the details. See you there. Love Life and Live it! I'm super pumped about this event. It is my first obstacle course, I've ran a few races in my day but this is the baby of the ultimate of challenges. My team "Got the Runs..." is a team of misfits. People of all different fitness abilities and levels and all of us have our own reasons for doing it, some similar, some different. What motivates us to take on a challenge out of our comfort zone is unique to us all. I for one love the test. It's a way of measuring my bodies abilities and limitations, to bad for my body that I'm of the belief that your body is a lot more capable then we give it credit for. I know its our mind that stands in our way. Think about it for a second, more often then not we give up mentally before our body physically gives up. So this is my way of actually growing and stretching my mental endurance. What a better way to do it then in the safety of a group, fellow teammates all taking on the challenge beside you.
Try going the distance , take it head on, say yes today. What are your goals? What area do you want to grow? Could you use some direction? Join our team there's always room for more, we're currently meeting every Sunday for 1 hour of High intensity and transferable exercises that will have you ready to take the Spartan Sprint Challenge too!
